A wide range of statutes regarding various areas of family law remained unattended for many years converting them into rigid and outdated frameworks creating unnecessary additional complications to the already sensitive aspect of human relations.

In the end of 2022 and beginning of 2023 though a number of much needed amendments were published in the official Gazette of Cyprus on various Laws (Attempted Reconciliation and Spiritual Resolution of Marriage Law (22/1990), the Law on Marriage (104(I)/2003) and the Law on Family Courts (23/1990) aligning the crucial family legislation with the needs of society.

A year later all the changes envisaged have been put to test and managed to defend themselves from any attempts of criticism by lawyers but – most importantly – succeeded in being embraced by the public. Undoubtedly this is a step to the correct direction. For more information on the impact of these changes, please contact our firm.
