Reforms, reforms, reforms! The word which unequivocally dominates the current situation in the judicial sector of the island. As legal practitioners, we must admit that only with the right reforms, will local residents and foreign investors can once again regain their lost confidence towards the shattered today Cypriot judicial system. On paper the changes (apparently vetted and – to a significant level – drafted by overseas experts) appear at a first glance to point to the correct direction.
However, the big question remains and hovers upon us as like the Sword of Damocles. Would the persons implicated and employed in this sensitive sector
abide, welcome and absorb the reforms in a constructive manner? Or would old habits such as shifting of responsibilities, reluctancy to changes or the worst of all, the “nothing can change really” motto, prove once more to be insurmountable hurdles.
It all comes down to the people!! It remains to be seen.
