It is necessary. Almost everyone involved with the Cypriot judicial system recognises the need for significant reforms. While Cyprus is infamous for its slow pace in adopting systemic changes, it appears that the momentum is right to tackle this reputation. The abrupt changes imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic, the newly elected presidents of the Nicosia and Cyprus Bar Associations, the newly appointed Minster of Justice, the Second Compliance Report of Fourth Evaluation Round on Cyprus recently adopted by GRECO and the outdated legal system altogether create an environment which positive change can start and thrive. It is necessary. Will it happen? It remains to be seen.
